The primary mission of the club is to promote and provide safe, fun equestrian activities. We follow the educational program of the United States Pony Club.
Who is Susquehanna Equestrian Club?
The Susquehanna Equestrian Club is a newly formed Chapter (as of May, 2005). Members include people from Lancaster, Dauphin and York County PA. Our activities include promoting/hosting clinics, sponsoring mounted events, monthly chapter meetings, and having educational speakers. Members currently participate/communicate via http://www.LancasterHorse.com - in the OPRC forum. Our members consist of English, Western, Dressage Riders, jumpers, pleasure-trail riders, and combined training riders
When/Where do you meet?
SEC meets the 1st Wed of every month, 7pm at a local establishment in Central PA. We rotate sites to accomodate people traveling from all parts of the area. All are welcome to join us for our meetings which are held the 1st Wednesday of each month: our schedule, meeting place and times are posted within the announcements in the OPRC section of http://www.LancasterHorse.com.
How can I join?
Print out a membership application from the national chapter's website Old People's Riding Club. You can then bring it along with your dues to the next meeting or mail to membership chair. Email or PM TRHouck for mailing address. An OPRC Activity and Rally Release form is also necessary and needs to be put on file.
How much does it cost?
Currently dues are $35.00. This fee covers $10.00 to the national chapter and $25.00 stays in SEC treasury. Please make one check out to Susquehanna Equestrian Club.
What's the connection with LancasterHorse.com?
Members currently participate/communicate via http://www.LancasterHorse.com - in the OPRC forum. The Susquehanna Equestrians (SEC) is the riding club extension of this online community.
What Activites Does OPRC/SEC Sponsor?
The 2006 SEC schedule is getting underway. On the books so far is a cross country clinic, braiding/wrapping/clipping, horse massage fundraiser, Christmas Party, tack swap, D2 rating day, just to name a few. OPRC hosted a rally in June 2005 at Tranquility Manor Farm Monkton, MD.
Does the OPRC/SEC have Safety Standards?
To participate in an SEC/OPRC mounted event one must get rated. The D1 test is posted on the national chapter site for western/english skills and is conducted on the honor system. You may remain a D1 forever or one can climb the ranks as high as you wish to be challenged.
Please feel free to contact any officers for additional information. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event.
